It Makes Me A Little Sad....

You might have heard of Kira Plastinina, the 16-year-old daughter of a Russian orange juice mogul (I'm not making this up) who has started her own eponymous chain store. Most everything I've heard of her so far has been applauding the fact that's so young and has her own store—the entrepreneurial spirit she must have! The ambition it must take to design a full line clothing at such a young age! And to decide to make it affordably priced so those unfortunates who aren't billionaires can have the clothes too! So I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at some of the clothes on her site. To say I was disappointed was an understatement, and my hopes hadn't even been set that high by what I'd already seen. Though, what did I expect from a girl my age who likes Hilary Duff and claims Paris Hilton as a role model. I can't imagine a single teen with half a bud of taste wearing any of this stuff and as I have learned from fashion blogging, some teenagers are actually quite stylish and would be able to design things 1000000x better. Here's a sampling of what Kira has to offer.

This monstrosity is for "when you can’t decide on a print tee, a swooping v-neck, or a hoodie—this top saves you from the pressure of early morning decision-making". It also saves you from the pressure of trying to look cheap—there's no effort involved here!

Shall I even began to enumerate the things wrong with this? To avoid stating the obvious, pockets in that area never work. Even the model is disgusted.

It doesn't work. It's like a balloon and an oversized softball shirt mated and had a baby which decided to call itself a dress. I won't even get into the random hood....

Ah, yes! This was just what was missing from my wardrobe! It brings "serious style to the all too regular hoodie". Yes. Wet Seal called. They want their archive piece from 2003 back.

Let's get things straight. I like this. I want this. But this thing... tramples the boundaries of taste and not in a good, innovative way.

These do not ever flatter the model. Enough said.

The really sad thing is that I would actually wear these if they weren't in a cheap-looking shiny fabric. That totally ruins them.

This is the "Punk Rock Princess" skirt. I'm not even going to get into that oxymoron, but again the only thing I can say is cheap.

Beating the dead horse, but these are odd and ugly and not in a good way like dropped crotch pants. I can't picture anyone wearing them unironically.

I'm not trying to be mean, and, if by some crazy chance Kira reads this, I'm not insulting you. I'm simply more than annoyed that just because your father is incredibly wealthy you get to make your own tacky store with what are in my own opinion extremely ugly clothes. Write me off as just being jealous that I can't have my own stores, okay? You have had all of this handed to you on a dainty little platter as you sit on your velour princess chair. Or private jet. There are so many more talented unknown designers who could use the money being wasted in opening 32 American stores. I'm putting all my faith in the American people that no one will buy this.

Le Vacation (and an Outfit)

Cape Cod was really fun! There were a lot of jellyfish washed up on the beach though so we had to scoop them all up out of our area so we had to scoop them up and put them in a bucket so no one stepped on one and got stung.

I also learned how to sail (in a supa stylish lifejacket):

I had to practice what would happen when the boat tipped over... but here I was holding on because I didn't want to fall in on top of my cousin (I did anyway...).

Click to enlarge if you wish

The outfit I wore yesterday was... kind of random. I originally was aiming for a sort of cute/ballerina look but... whatever, I'm not very good at looking cute.

Erin Fetherston for Target t-shirt. Skirt from Korea. Leg Avenue tights. Forever 21 headband. Converse sneakers.
I took this picture to prove that my under eye circles are not actually that dark. Apparently they actually are that dark.

Anyways, I got the skirt from Eunice when she saw me wearing Victoria's skirt and said she had a similar one she got in Korea but never wears. Despite the fact that that all happened a few months ago, this is the first time I've worn it. It's similar but it only has ruffles on the bottom part—I guess it's meant to be layered under things... hm I'll have to experiment.

I'm TNT, Dynamite!

I'm heading up to the Cape for a few days, so I won't be able to post (this is actually a timed post, as I left this morning), but here's my outfit from Sunday.

J. Crew shirt. H&M skirt. Forever 21 turban. Fishnets from a dance costume. Converse sneakers.

I thought there fishnets look very vaguely Rodarte. I got lots of weird looks when I went out for dinner. Yesterday I went to Borders and got Elle and V Magazine (yay!). Jessica Simpson should not be there but I can get over it. And the shoot with Gisele in V... um... nice pants? I don't really understand why they're trying to appeal to straight males in a fashion magazine....

And I know I'm so obnoxious but comment here here, here, here, here, and here. I expect mucho comments, people! Haha.

So Demode!

Christopher Kane way:

Martin Margiela way:

Hannah Cheeto way:

H&M vest. ??? lace tank top. Jeans I customized. Old Navy wedges.

One of the older builders walked down the driveway right as I took this picture. He thought I was running away from a bee. Needless to say I ran inside immediately to take the detail pictures. Anyway I "customized" these jeans by ripping, bleaching, and pinning them into skinnies with safety pins (the sewing machine is packed away somewhere... but I kind of like the way it looks). Original these were a pair of ugly fake too big 7 For All Mankind jeans I got on Ebay two years ago that I wore once, but now I like the way they came out! I'm not entirely sure what else I'm going to wear with them, though, any suggestions?

Um Confusing? (And Shameless Self-Promotion)

Teen Vogue apparently did let me make like five extra entries? Whatever, I'm happy. Comment here, here, here, here, and here por favor! I'm thinking I should have spaced them out more but oh well.

Shake That Booty Bass

Lately, it simple doesn't feel right to wear bare legs... I have to wear at the very least some scrunched up socks.

American Eagle tank top. Skirt sewn by me. Thrifted hat. Forever 21 socks. Topshop flats.

Though bandage skirts have been quite popular lately, fuller skirts have been getting a lot of love too.

You can actually submit more than one outfit to the Teen Vogue contest! I'm entering some new ones, which I'll post on soon. And my original outfit. No way I'll win, but please comment it anyway :P.\

Edit: Oh crap, I read the rules incorrectly... and I just entered like five other outfits! Oh well... um please comment anyway....

No One Wants To Pay To See Your Happiness

Mad fierceness yo!

J. Crew shirt. AA lamé leggings. Thrifted furry neck thing and heels. Wet Seal belt.

Forever 21 blazer and shirt. My friend Ally's old Catholic School uniform skirt. Target socks. Jeffrey Campbell oxfords.

Forever 21 blazer. Some random cami. Topshop pants. Thrifted shoes.

I had to climb out of my bedroom window to avoid the painters.... Haha what a rebel.

The insanely cool Yonctopus tagged me with the Brilliante Weblog award. I would just like to take this opportunity to say she is 50000000x as cool as I'll ever be and she's only 13!

She says "I luuurve her outfits. And her Docs. And her hair. IT'S RED!"

I've already gotten it, but I didn't tag anyone, so I thought I would tag a few people. I'm really bad at describing people though, so I'll just link. But they're all awesome.

Happy Birthday Blog!

I just realized that yesterday was the first day that I started posting semi-regularly on this blog! It was also the day I posted my um weird "Back To School Fashion Lab Report" in which I proposed two hypotheses:

Hypothesis 1: I will have a superb mix of high-fashion, rockerness, and preppy A&F that will stun her classmates without alienating them.

Hypothesis 2: I will fail miserably at keeping her resolution, and dress as a conformist, and people might still think she is a freak.

Yes, I switch from the first person to the third person. I was on mad crack yo. But I think it's pretty funny, how much I've changed in a year. I'm not really sure what I was talking about, but I guess the conclusion, which I wrote in January, sort of explains what happened:

Since the first day of school, I have been carefully getting dressing and planning my outfits, while at the same time wearing what I felt like wearing. Some days, granted, I might have gone the lazy route, but most days I'm completely comfortable wearing what used to be reserved for my "weekend outfits." But now I've really getting it down. I feel comfortable in just about whatever. I think people are used to it. And it's not like I'm outrageously eccentric. I haven't gotten to that point yet. But I have something for almost every circumstance. Wake up late? I'll repeat an interesting outfit. Cold, lazy day? That's what wide-leg pants are for. I have to say, I've been pretty good. I've also found that I'm not totally in love with Hollister and A&F anymore. I mean, I still like to go and look at the stuff, but I've been wearing it less and less lately, and buying things from those stores seems like a waste of money, because I know five other people will have the exact same thing. But I still want these jeans. I'll keep that in mind next time I have a spare $80 burning a hole in my pocket.

As far as the reactions of others to my outfits, it hasn't been bad. Sure, random people comment on my clothes (particularly my bright blue skinny pants) but as far as people I actually know, little is said, and it's mostly good. This year, I have really learned that I can't care too much what people think of me. I can't be fake and boring just because I'm trying to avoid ridicule. I stepped out of my comfort zone about, and I found that it wasn't nearly as bad as I think. My friends didn't shun me, and I even managed to make new friends who don't think I'm a total weirdo. I'm glad I took the risk.

This may be the "conclusion" but I'll probably be in school for another 7+ years, and of course my style will continue to evolve.

Yay me! Anyway, I'm about to do a photoshoot with a few different back-to-school sort of outfits. But first, a sort of retrospective.*

Go back to June '07 and you will find a girl curious about fashion and with bit dreams but not quite ready just yet to crawl out of her safe shell. She's one of the only people at her school who wears skinny jeans and sometimes even dresses (true story... no one wore dresses) but she still clings to Abercrombie and Hollister like a safety blanket (and deludes herself into thinking that their clothes are actually flattering).

Her very first fashion-y photo, taken for a band she was supposably going to be in, back in early '07.**

At her 8th grade graduation semi-formal she could not wait to debut her sick updo, while the other girls wear their hair flat-ironed or in french braids. Her outfit, however, is a sparkly Macy's dress with gold strappy wedges... flattering colors but not exactly fashion.

At graduation, she wears a simple striped sun dress from H&M which is adorable despite the fact that breaks on the second wearing.***

That summer, she begins to experiment with makeup and clothing....

She gets a shirtdress (and stupid poses)...

And plays mad Twister (this has nothing to do with fashion, I know).

Chillin' in da upstate (NY that is), she experiments more (sunglasses, dresses, weird thrift things)...

As the school year begins she gets way more adventurous and quickly tires of the A&F-HCO dominance. She also dances in the Santa parade....

And then she started taking outfit pictures!

The rest is history (actually, it's this blog).

Well wasn't that weird.

*which is probably more interesting to me than anyone else....

**I was on serious mad crack (why do I keep saying that?) back then. I thought my legs looked fat in this picture. I cannot get over how dumb I was! What the hell! I don't even know... I used to have frickin' model legs, to judge by that photograph! Now 14 lbs. (kept tell yourself it's muscle) later... argh I was stupid. But I was just all-around effed up in middle school... so yeah.

***Victoria is not my only friend. Believe me. She's just the one that I am stylish with.
