Beating The Dead Horse Into A Pulp

Sorry about the graphic title. So I hate to jump in to the whole skinny model debate, but thanks to a Fashionista post from a while ago it has been brought to my attention that the TimesOnline has proclaimed that "The Death of Size Zero" is nigh. Well, ignoring the dumb title, it reminded me of the fact that some non-obscenely thin models do actually get work. I also discovered that Sasha Pivovarova had gained weight, and still booked quite a few shows. Now this makes me very happy!

I have to say as a teenage girl the media's influence on myself and my friend's body image is quite obvious. While I'm generally happy with my body at this point, I have friends who aren't despite the fact they are a size 2. While these people don't look at pictures of very thin models every day like I do, they still feel the influence of the pressure to become skinny. People argue that "oh, clothes just look better on thin girls" and "models don't actually influence real people". Um, I beg to differ. Maybe it's just that subconscious "people like seeing people like them" thing, but when I see a picture like this, I can't help but think "yes!" and actually be able to see myself in that outfit (well, this particular outfit is kind of hideous but you know what I mean).

Also cited in the article are Daisy Lowe and Lara Stone.

Doesn't that just make you feel better about yourself? She's wicked hot, and she (kind of) has thighs.

Hm. Lara is still really skinny. But wait! Look at that model behind her! Perspective, people.

I'm obviously not blasting people who are naturally skinny, but so few people actually look like that so it sets unattainable standards. Arguably that's what makes it desirable, but is that a good thing? I don't think so.

Of course, it's annoying to think that you'd have to already have an established reputation as a really thin model or have to come from famous parents to make it, but it's a start.

Also, I'm pretty pissed that people have told Karla she had huge thighs. Uhm, I'll take that personally, thank you. Athletic thighs kick ass! And Karla is so not fat, some people are just really bitchy and probably quite insecure themselves if they feel the need to point that out. Karla isn't even vaguely near being overweight, and how do they think making comments like that makes people who are on the heavier side feel? They're people too, and just because they're not a tiny size doesn't mean they can't like fashion. Alright, end rant.

How Much Is Too Much?

It's no secret that I love Rumi of Fashion Toast and think she is incredibly stylish. However, lately some of her outfits have got me thinking about the line between looking stylishly undressed and, for lack of a better term, like a skank. Exhibit A:

The high-waisted pants deslutify it... not. I'm sorry, Rumi, but please stick to wearing that tank with a bra underneath it. That way it looks sexy, not like you put on your dad's stretched out old wifebeater and forgot underwear. It doesn't even look good. At all. It's just unflattering in a bad way. Worn with the bra or even that mesh bodysuit, I would love this outfit. But I don't want to see that much of you in public, except for the perverts. Who probably went wild over this outfit. I sincerely hope you taped it in place. Just because Erin Wasson did it, doesn't mean you should do it. It looks bad on Erin, too. But we all know how I feel about her. Which brings me to Exhibit B. See how much better it looks with the bra? And compare Rumi to Erin. Which one should be the model? (Hint: It's not the manly one. And I'm not talking about the one with the stubble.)

And here's Exhibit C: I'm not sure what possessed you to wear a extremely thin bra under a mesh bodysuit, but let me tell you it's just... ugh. You, the girl who is as tall as me and at least 15 lbs. lighter, would be the person to rock this if anyone but I think this is strictly a look for the pornos.

Of course, Rumi can wear whatever she pleases and I write this doubting she'll ever read it. But... wait stop, Hannah! I'm not going to apologize for what I've said. I love Rumi, and I'm jealous of her hotness and the fact that she can wear things my 15-year-oldness can't possibly deal with. But I sincerely think she would look better if she covered up slightly more. To end things on a positive note, how much do I love this?
It's still very exposing, but with the fur... gahgahgah. I'm such a hypocrite. I'm a vegetarian who loves fur. I would never buy real fur of course... unless maybe it was thrifted.... But anyway so gorgeous.

What Happened to Tavi?

Hopefully it's just a temporary thing but Style Rookie seems to be down/private.... Ahh what's up?

Edit: She's back. It was an accident. =)

Gahgahgahgahgah

Oops... sorry 'bout that temporary absence.... I went on vacation figuring my dad would bring his laptop and... he didn't (because we stayed in a hotel instead of the cabin we usually rent).

Anyway, Susie Bubble has been featured on Urban Outfitters promoting their leg wear. The interview is interesting to read but the leggings and tights are to. Die. For.

Total Chanel ripoff but that doesn't stop their amazingness.... They will be mine.

I'm not a (total) trendwhore, I swear I've wanted lace tights since forever. But anyway, these are perfect, and I might have to check out the other colors as well.

Wait, didn't American Apparel already do these? No matter, there look better than the AA ones (i.e. shinier, tighter, LONGER INSEAM, both legs are the same length) and are all of $4 cheaper. I'll have trouble convincing my mom I need another pair, though.

Aren't these just so gorgeous?

My vacation was mad whack... not necessarily in a good way. My relatives are crazy....

Hello Wisconsin

I'm too tired from staying up super-late, lying around in the sun (and in the basement watching "That 70's Show" and playing Guitar Hero) and eating large quantities of junk food on my vacation, I'll just send you in the direction of a few blogs you may enjoy if you don't already read them.

  • Surely everyone already reads Karla's Closet but if you don't... just read it! And look at the pictures....

My brain is totally fried. And ahh there was a lot of interesting stuff going on up in the NH.
