Inspiration boards are very fun to make, whether you cut and paste from magazines or use images from the internet as I did. This inspiration board highlights my current obsession with prep school uniforms. Yes, I'm planning to wear pleated plaid minis with black tights and knee-high socks. No, I'm not going crazy. I'm also going to avoid the whole weird/skanky route... I'm going to try and not make it look like I don't actually have a uniform but just incorporate it into my personal style, kind of... Anyway, I got inspiration from t.A.T.u. (yes that band which I happen to adore!), L.A.M.B.'s S/S08 collection, anime schoolgirls (am I the only person who is so envious of their clothes?) and of course Gossip Girl!

don't you believe?
2 major fashion weeks down, 2 to go. My nails are electric blue, homework sucks, and what else is new? Oh yes, my trip to the mall keeps getting post-poned. blah :( But I'm very excited to visit h&m to get a coat. Sorry for the lack of posts; I'm dog tired and worn to the bone.

Back To School Fashion Lab Report, Pt. 1.75 (Update No. 2, Epiphany Edition)
I've come to an epiphany! I don't have to dress like an Abercrombie clone ever. I can dress however I want, whenever I want, and I can't spend too much time worrying about what people think of me because there's just no point in doing that. Dress as myself, dress in what you're comfortable with, but not what's easy (i.e. Abercrombie) but what you truly like. It seems hypothesis 1 is proving to be more true than hypothesis 2. Weeeeeeeeee!!!!!! (If you have no idea what I'm talking about, click here.)
P.S. I just painted my nails white with black tips and it's poppin' except Sally Hansen nail polish is crappy (I swear! $1 NYC is better!) and the white is a bit lumpy plus the black is done freehand so it's not perfect. But yeah, I'm so proud of myself because I'm painting my nails every week now!

Back To School Fashion Lab Report, Pt. 1.5 (Update)
I've already blogged about my first-day outfit, and my second outfit was those cute plaid shorts with a gray top. Now, looking at High School Fashion, I've seen a lot more dresses, skinny jeans (yayyy!!!) and high heels (including one weird outfit of yellowish Madras shorts paired with sparkly blue pointy-toed stilettos. It looked hilarious!). Much more cool, non-repetive dressing than middle school. But you know what sucks? My grade is as full of bland, boring preps as ever. :(
Smashin' Fashion Week (lyk omg it rimezzzzz!!!)
I decide who's a hit, who's a miss, and who's... wait, why do I get to decide this?!? My thoughts on New York Fashion Week.
Apologies for the long post; I'm sure you (my imaginary reader) won't mind.
Abaete sent mainly dresses down their runway with the exception of an occasional wide-leg pant or bathing suit, all with a beachy, tropical influence and in clean colorblocks. The dresses are clearly more structured than in previous seasons. The above bathing suit (which I at first mistook for a too-short dress!) was one of my favorites, because it reminds me of an Herve Leger bandage dress, plus giant flower. The parasol is cool, but I could go without the thing (bathing cap? hat?) on her head and the unfortunate white peds on her feet.
Alexandre Herchcovitch showed tuxedo-inspired looks featuring black menswear-inspired vest-dresses and jumpsuits, shirt collar/bow tie necklaces, and the colors black, white, beige, red, and, perplexingly, neon yellow-green. The first pic shows an evening look with an exaggerated, ruffly bust and the classic, graphic combination of white and black. I'm ignoring the weirdo handcuff-ish things. My other favorite was the bottom dress which again is cinched at the waist. I'm in love with the large yet subtle bow at the neck.
Erin Fetherson's collection featured nipped in waists and subtle colors far more than I expected after seeing her collection for Target. Most of the dresses seemed breezy and loose, except for the more stuctured shirtdresses, and the pants were, of course, wide. Okay, I admit it, I'm bad. I chose the pictures above not because they were more favorite pieces but because they were my favorite pieces to laugh at. The suit-thing in the first picture isn't too bad for a lightweight, summer, well, suit, but the turban seriously makes it look like something a camel-riding tribesman in Saudi Arabia would wear (but I still want the turban). The second pic highlights the creepy eyeshadow. Okay, it just look creepy on poor Chanel Iman (who I like) but argh! It looks like googly eyes. And the dress she's wearing is drab and looks much too hot for Spring/Summer, especially as I sit here in 85 degree heat at 7 in the morning.
I want you all over me like L.A.M.B.! Okay, I had to feature Gwen's collection because I just love her so. And her clothes this season are like a preppy-cool dream! I would wear just about everything she sent down the runway... I totally love L.A.M.B.! But enough obsessing; the first and second pic I have up are both outfits that are TOTALLY my style! I want! But so expensive! :'( Gwen, I will love you forever if you send me free samples (okay, I'll love you forever anyway, but oh well). And of course I needed a picture of the designer herself, the fabulous Gwen Stefani in a fabulous dress with her fabulous (cute) son.
If L.A.M.B. is my favorite collection, Proenza Schouler would be second (at least of all the collections I've viewed so far. I haven't seen Ralph Lauren or Lacoste, but...). Proenza was all about cinched waists and high hemlines, and I love the military theme. The downside was the unfortunate prevalence of a bright yet somehow dusty yellow, which several outfits seriously overdosed on. In the first pic I love the belted khaki vests over a silky black dress. I also loved the gray version of these vests with an awesomely patterned shirt.
More later (possibly, supposing high school homework doesn't pile too high... :( ) <--lol it looks like a funny smiley but it's really just a frowny face.

Back-To-School Shopping!!!!!!!
Today I went to the mall with the intention of getting a tote bag to carry my books between classes, but of course I ended up getting way more because of awesome sales.
First store I went to was A&F, where I got some cute stuff on sale. I got this polo for just $16:
and these shorts for just $19:
Yay yay sales!
Next stop was Hollister to find the tote bag I had been eyeing. Unfortunately all of the bags were sold out so I had to order it online which sucks because I won't have it for school tomorrow :(. But here it is, for $35:
Then at Gap I got a 3/4 sleeve crewneck cableknit sweater in dark gray (very exciting and avant garde, I know!) on sale for $25.
Finally I went to abercrombie (kids) to where I got another, much needed *sarcasm* pair of skinny jeans. I think it's my 6th or 7th pair! Damn, girl, slow down! But anyway, they were actually the jeans on my wishlist, for $40:
and this polo for $16:
And I got classic black Converse Chuck Taylor lo-tops!
My current first day of school outfit is the abercrombie kids polo and jeans and the Converse. I'm riding to school with my friend Erika tomorrow, and I'll be ready to debut my new look! (actually the same look I developed in 8th grade but oh well)
I promise I won't turn into an Abercrombie/Hollister clone! I promise!

NYC Nails
I went downtown yesterday, hoping to find at least one open nail salon in which I could purchase Russian Navy. But, as it was labor day, everything was closed. :( So instead I went to CVS to attempt to find a good (temporary) substitute. Many drugstore nail brands were slow catching on with navy and even deep purple colors, but to my elation I found a cool-looking polish from New York Colors, a.k.a. NYC: Long-Wearing (haha yeah right) Nail Enamel in Skin Tight Denim Creme 115A. It was a mid-to-dark, metallic blue and it was only $1, so how could I not get it? Now, I have purchased two bottles of polish from NYC previously (Black Lace Creme and Polyester Pink Creme) and was not impressed by the quality. But Skin Tight Denim Creme went on just as easily as any OPI or Essie would. Perhaps it was because I was already wearing OPI Nail Envy. Even so, I'm in love! Two or even just one coat shows up as a gorgeous deep blue that is metallic but not glittery (yay yay yay!). Much love!

Nailing Navy
Blue is one of my favorite colors, and it is very prominent in my wardrobe, as it is as my mom says, "my color." It looks good with my hair and brings out my eyes. I have loads of blue shirts, blue skirts, and don't even get me started on how many pairs of blue jeans I have. And now, one of the biggest trends for fall is navy nails! As far as painting my nails blue, the first time was in fifth grade with a super-sparkly true blue. Not a good look. It was tacky! The next time was this summer, when I bought Sephora polish in 55 (turquoise blue) which I put it on to gorgeous results. Now, I'm planning to try navy for fall. Right now, I'm biased towards OPI's Russian Navy from their Russian Collection, because I already got Siberian Nights and I absolutely love it, it's the perfect deep purple but I digress. Here's Russian Navy:
It looks rather purple-y in the picture, doesn't it? But here's how it looks on:
Also in consideration are Ink and Light My Sapphire from OPI's Night Brights collection. Light My Sapphire is a dark blue-black while Ink is somewhat lighter and is a purple-blue. Both have considerable shimmer.
From left: Ink, Light My Sapphire, My Private Jet (this shade is not navy!)
And here's another shot of Ink, under different lighting, showing off the purple tones.
The reason I like Russian Navy the best is it's the least sparkly and I don't really like glittery polishes that much for some reason. I'll probably get Russian Navy but I might get Ink too despite its sparkly-ness.... But the only way I'll know which one I'll get is when I get it, because I'm notorious for changing my mind at the last minute ;).
